You Are A Mountain
There is an elementary school across the street from our office. They’ve built a large hill for the kids to run up and down during recess.
We always enjoy observing the children play, especially when we have prospects or clients visit us.
The kids always have so much fun. They’re hard to miss. Rather than allow their joyful play to become a distraction, we use their recess as an opportunity to explain a critical life principle.
King of the Hill
Do you remember when you were a kid playing King of the Hill?
I do. I remember how much energy I exerted getting to the top, and when I made it through and raised my hands in the air, I felt really good about myself. But here’s the thing… I wasn’t up there very long. There was always someone else fighting to take my place.
It’s the same way in the competitive business world. You scratch and claw your way to the top of the hill and when you get up there, it feels good. But it’s only temporary. There’s always going to be someone stronger, faster, smarter or willing to outspend you to bring you down. This is inevitable.
Wallace Wattles wrote, “Riches secured on the competitive plane are never satisfactory and permanent; they are yours today, and another’s tomorrow.”
Riches secured on the competitive plane are never satisfactory and permanent. Share on XWouldn’t it be great if there were a way to grow a business and become increasingly successful in your career without the struggle, clawing or fight? There is. And it begins with understanding who you are (as a person or as an organization).
You see, there’s something within you and within your organization that is uniquely yours. This something ignites passion, creates raving fans and gives you a real, sustainable competitive advantage – one that will never be taken away.
Their Hill or Your Mountain?
The choice is yours.
Go head-to-head against your competition in a never-ending adult king of the hill game where everyone is fighting over the same small piece of profit or rise out of the playground mentality and be your own mountain. Which will it be?
We knew early on that we would be a “mountain.” In other words, we made competition irrelevant by creating our own markets.
If you’ve researched our agency, you know we work with many amazing brands, and we didn’t acquire them through the traditional methods. In fact, we haven’t done anything “traditionally.”
We’ve always preferred to create and capture new demand rather than exploit existing demand. We’re in it for the long haul. The permanent. The sustainable.
You are a Mountain
Whether you realize it yet or not, you are a mountain too. Everything you need to succeed in this life is already within you.
You don’t have to go searching for it. You don’t have to buy it. You don’t have to uncover it somewhere, out there. You are already “it.”
Stop and think about this for a moment. Recognize yourself for who you really are. Marinate in this reality. Visualize it. It is from this realization you will perceive (perhaps for the first time) the benefits of the mountain mindset.
Mountains absorb rays of sunlight in the same way they take in rain, wind and snow. Mountains don’t care about the weather. Throughout history, they have symbolized constancy, firmness, stillness, and higher consciousness. That’s because no matter what is thrown at them, mountains remain mountains.
You are a mountain, so go ahead and be a mountain. You can do it. Today is your day!
